Does ReputationDefender serve international clients?
Yes. Our searches are currently most effective in English, but we search in most languages. Some of the remedies available to clients who wish to have content destroyed or removed may be different in international jurisdictions, but almost every circumstance is unique, and we are constantly exploring how to make our full suite of solutions available to our clients from all corners of the globe.
What about the First Amendment and the Freedom of Speech?
ReputationDefender is a strong supporter of the freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Our correction/removal ("Destroy") service was designed to help private citizens regain control over unintentionally posted or outdated personal information accidentally disclosed to the public Internet, and address potentially libelous, slanderous, defamatory or invasive information about them that serves no public benefit.
We have no interest in squelching newsworthy speech, and we do not target newsmedia articles for removal. Nor do we seek to get government records removed from the Internet. We believe that individuals have the right to express ideas freely, and we support the freedom of the press to inquire fully about issues of legitimate public interest. Given that, we reserve the right to refuse any requests that we believe conflict with these fundamental values. But we also believe that it is the right of individuals to know what others are saying about them, and for private individuals to protect themselves from unintentional, inappropriate, or illegal intrusions of their privacy.
Are you really better at "Searching" the Internet for content than the typical tech-savvy person?
Yes. We're very good. So are Human Resources Departments and university admissions committees and many other people who might want to learn about you. Our clients are usually surprised at what we find.
Does ReputationDefender simply send cease-and-desist letters or sue everybody when it seeks to "Destroy" content?
No. Most of our approaches to effecting correction or removal of content are non-legal. We will only pursue legal options with the express consent of our clients, and these techniques are strictly optional and usually the last resort. They may incur additional cost. In such cases, we do not act as lawyers for our clients. We are not lawyers or a law firm, and we do not offer legal advice or services. In such cases, we refer our clients to lawyers with whom we have pre-negotiated competitive rates. We don't receive any compensation for the referral or for any other part of the legal process, so our incentive is to solve the problem without referring our clients to lawyers. If such a referral becomes necessary, the client and attorney have a direct relationship with each other.
Is ReputationDefender a background checking service? What prevents someone else from using MyReputation
(sm) or MyChild
(sm) to perform a search about me?
We will only conduct searches for our clients about themselves or their children. When you sign up, the search information you provide is cross-checked with credit card and other personal information to ensure that we do not perform searches on unsuspecting individuals.
Can an HR Department, University, or other organization hire ReputationDefender to find out about job or college applicants?
No. We do NOT work for Human Resources departments at corporations looking to do research on job applicants. And we do NOT work for university admissions boards seeking information on school applicants. We work only for individuals protecting themselves or their kids.
Does ReputationDefender help companies seeking to protect their reputations?
No. We work only for individuals.
I have one particular item in mind that I would like you to "Destroy". Do I still have to pay for a subscription?
Yes, unfortunately. For the moment, we are not yet set up to do
one-time-only Destroys. We will offer this as soon as possible, but
that could be a few months from now.
How does ReputationDefender secure the information about me or my child/teen that I provide?
ReputationDefender uses extensive layered methods to protect any information you provide. We do not and will never sell or give away any information about you or your child. The trust and confidence of our clients is the single most important currency to our team. We will always and only be in your corner.
How long does it take to Destroy content?
It really depends. Sometimes less than a day. Sometimes weeks.
Can we Remove absolutely ANY content from the Internet?
No. Newspaper articles and court records are difficult to impossible to remove, and we do not seek to remove them. We focus on our clients' privacy and reputations. This means we focus on content that is slanderous, private, defamatory, invasive, and/or outdated. If we are asked by a client to target a particularly difficult site for our Destroy process, we will advise him or her that the task could be more difficult than usual, and we will immediately refund his or her Destroy fee for that item if appropriate. However, once we start on our process, we can't offer refunds or guarantees for Destroy, since our labor can be quite substantial, and this is a very hard job.
Can we Correct ANY content on the Internet?
No. The same general rules for our work to Destroy apply to our work to Correct. We are respectful of First Amendment issues. Once we start on our process, we can't offer refunds or guarantees for our efforts, since our labor for can be quite substantial, and this is a very hard job.
Can ReputationDefender Destroy Usenet/Usergroup Content?
It's a little harder than some other types of content, but it is often manageable.
Sure ReputationDefender can remove and/or correct content from website sources themselves, but what about cache servers?
This is usually not a problem. Once the original web content is removed or corrected, caches will normally drop or update their content. If they don't, ReputationDefender will go the last mile to help effect the removal or updating of their content. Also, in case it is some comfort, cached content is generally much harder for people to find, so it will have less impact on a person's reputation.
What if I have a common name (like John Smith)? How does ReputationDefender sort out the others and work only for the "real" me?
This is actually pretty easy. First of all, we're good at research. Second, when you sign up as a client, we immediately direct you to your Personalize Page. This page is private and password protected. It allows you to personalize your MyReputation account by providing us with basic background information (e.g. college name, home town, graduation year, profession, etc.). Entering information on your Personalize Page is completely optional and this information can be updated, changed, and/or removed at any time. It helps ensure we are finding content about the right person and not cluttering your inbox with information about the wrong person.
Is the list of social networks listed on your website the only networks you Search on behalf of your clients?
No. Our site lists only a few examples.
Who can subscribe on behalf of a child or teen for the MyChild service?
Only parents or legal guardians can subscribe to MyChild on behalf of their child. ReputationDefender takes very seriously the safety, security and privacy of the children and teens for whom we work. We abide by the most current US federal law requirements for child and teen protection on the Internet.
What does it mean that ReputationDefender is in "BETA"?
BETA more or less means experimental. Our services and our company are both new. Much remains to be polished and completed. We learn a great deal from our experience and customer feedback all the time. It also means that we are offering our services for low "BETA" prices. We welcome you to sign up, but we ask upfront for you to be aware that we are in BETA. We also always warmly welcome your honest feedback!
Can ReputationDefender guarantee its Destroy results?
Unfortunately not. We work very hard for our clients, but our job is hard. We remain the first and only company in the world that performs the Destroy service. Every month, we develop new techniques and relevant relationships and get better at achieving Destroys rapidly and effectively. Moreover, we never charge our clients more than the $29.95 Destroy fee to achieve their objective for a given item. It's a one-time fee, no matter how hard we have to work. For now, during BETA (or at least this early phase of BETA), we do charge the $29.95 fee whether we succeed or not. At some point soon, we may may switch to a success-only fee, or to a partial contingency fee. But we are working hard during this BETA phase to keep our prices low so that our clients can afford our services and the risk that we may not succeed in every case.
What are the prices for the MyReputation and MyChild Search and Destroy services?
We will provide you a detailed monthly Search report for $9.95/month. You can pay for a year upfront for a 15% savings!
If we find an item of online content you don't like, we'll carry out our proprietary Destroy process for you on that item for the one-time low fee of $29.95. You don't pay this till you command us to remove unwanted online content.
How does MyPrivacy protect my privacy?
Good question! We take on the time-consuming job of removing or
correcting your detailed personal information that is found in the
dozens of databases that collect and sell
your data.
Why is this a monthly subcription service? Why don't I just pay you one time to do it all at once and be done with it for good?
We wish it were that easy. The databases that house your personal information repopulate their data frequently. So it's not good enough just to get your information out of the databases once: we have to *keep* it out after it's gone, and that requires constant monitoring and updating.
Who has access to my personal information after I enter it on your website?
Just us. We don't share or sell your detailed information with any third party. Period.
How do you know it's really me signing up for your service? How do you know someone else isn't trying to stalk me through your service?
We use credit card and other strong data matching criteria to
authenticate our users and verify that you are actually you!
Can I sign up my whole family for the MyPrivacy service?
Yes! You can sign up for yourself and your children if they are younger than 18 years old. We hope to offer a family discount program in the near future to make it even easier.
Can I sign up my boss or friend for the MyPrivacy service?
No. You can sign up only for yourself or other people for whom you have a legal responsibility (e.g., your children!).
Will MyPrivacy remove my personal data totally from the Internet?
The Internet is a big place, so no one can guarantee that, but we are regularly adding databases to our Removal and Correction pipeline, so we will make it harder and harder for third parties to find and abuse your detailed or incorrect information. Our mission is to give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your online exposure and risk are diminished as soon as you sign up with us.
I have a record that doesn't show up in your report, but I know it's out there, and I want it Destroyed. How can I make that happen?
What does MyPrivacy cost?
We are offering the full suite of MyPrivacy search and remove services for just $4.95/month!
Pay in advance for a year-long subscription and save 15%!
How long does it take for MyPrivacy to process the records I request for removal?
Record removals through MyPrivacy often happen immediately. Removal of other records can take between 10 and 60 days.
